What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Contact forms
When you contact us per e-mail or contact form about questions of any nature, you give us your voluntary consent for the purpose of establishing contact. This requires providing us with a valid e-mail address. The address allows us to allocate the inquiry and subsequently process it. Provision of any further data is optional. The information you provide is stored for the purpose of processing the inquiry and any possible follow-up questions.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Analytics
Use of Google Analytics
This web site uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service provided by Google Inc. (hereafter: Google). Google Analytics uses so-called “cookies”, i.e. text files that are stored on your computer and allow us to analyze how you use our web site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this web site is generally transferred to a Google server in the USA and stored there. Due to the activation of IP anonymization in these web pages, Google first shortens your IP address within member states of the European Union or other contract states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area. In exceptional cases, the full IP address is transferred to a Google server in the USA and shortened there. On behalf of the operator of this web site, Google will use this information to evaluate your use of the web site, compile reports on the web site activities, and to provide the web site operator with further services connected with the use of the web site and the internet. Google does not connect the IP address transmitted by your browser in the context of Google Analytics with other data.
The purposes of data processing are solely to evaluate web site use and compile reports on activities on the web site. Further related services are then to be provided based on the information gained about web site and internet use. Processing is founded on the justified interest of the web site operator.
You can prevent the storage of cookies by using the respective setting in your browser software; however, we point out that doing so may cause you to lose full functionality of some of the features on this web site. Furthermore, you can prevent the collection of the data generated by the cookie and related to your use of the web site (incl. your IP address) by Google and the processing of such data by Google by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available at the following link: browser add-on for deactivating Google Analytics.
Additionally or as an alternative to the browser add-on, you can prevent tracking by Google Analytics on our pages by clicking this link. This installs an opt-out cookie on your device. It prevents data collection by Google Analytics for this web site and for this browser in the future for as long as the cookie remains installed on your browser.
